If a person is gay-bashed, is it enough on the part of some people to merely think you are gay? It happened to me in Grade 7 and 8, and by Grade 10 it became obvious that they got the wrong guy. Then, after a while, no one approached me in any hostile manner (they didn’t approach me in a friendly manner, either — I was just ignored). I think most people finally were learning the meaning of the word “gay”, and started to know better.
Of course, in my life I have thought much of this question, and I still can’t decide if this was homophobia, or just plain paranoia.
